A guided Shropshire Way walk was held on the afternoon of Sunday 27th June led by Jo Revell the Walking Adviser. Six members of Shropshire Guiding enjoyed their walk along the stretch of the Shropshire Way between Much Wenlock and Coalbrookdale a distance of a bit over 10km. The route goes across farmland then down Benthall Edge through the woods then up through the back lanes of Ironbridge and through woodland again in Coalbrookdale. We met up with the enthusiastic Lawley Brownies in Ironbridge and, after being fortified by excellent ice creams, we all completed the route together. The last couple of miles wasn’t far but was quite challenging with some steep uphill sections and 174 steps down from the Rotunda view point above Ironbridge. Well – one of the Brownies counted the steps and they certainly felt like 174! Everyone thoroughly deserved their Shropshire Way challenge badges at the end of the walk. For several of the Brownies this was the first badge they’d gained which was most exciting for them. Well done all.
So far Shropshire Guiding members have walked 380 miles along the Shropshire Way since Thinking Day 2020. The challenge runs until Thinking Day 2021. If you’d like help to take your unit out to do this challenge contact Jo Revell, details here
