Last County Baden Powell Weekend!

Posted by

We held a fantastic final BP weekend at Hodnet Hall in July. We celebrated with 31 girls, took part in a ceildh and had an ice cream van. The girls managed to sleep out under the stars before a badge presentation and our own special badge to commemorate. It was a wonderful event and the girls made many friends. We also said a huge thank you to all our BP team and Debbie Bray the co ordinator.

Shropshire Cares, Shropshire Shares Badges

Shropshire Cares – Shropshire Shares

This social action badge is in two sections, Shropshire cares is about being active in the community, maybe carol singing at an old peoples home or planting trees along the canal. Shropshire shares involves collecting and giving, this maybe toiletries for the Red Box Project, food for the foodbank or animal food for the cats and dogs home. Make your challenges as quirky as you want and don’t forget to share them on social media. These will allow units to take social action at all levels. Shropshire cares is about being active in the community and Shropshire shares allows you to collect and donate for a worthwhile cause – all of your girls choosing! Enjoy!!

The badges are in stock and available from the badge secretary.

Whitchurch District Christmas Entertainment

Posted by Amanda Taylor

2nd Whitchurch Rainbows, 6th Whitchurch Brownies and 1st Whitchurch Guides went to Greenfields Care home in Whitchurch to brighten up the residents Christmas with an evening of Christmas entertainment.  The girls sang carols, read Christmas poems, played musical instruments and told Christmas jokes.  The residents enjoyed the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides entertainment and joined in with the Christmas singing.

On their last meeting before Christmas 6th Whitchurch Brownies made Christmas hampers and delivered to elderly residents of the towns Almes houses to say Merry Christmas.  Following delivering the hampers the Brownies enjoyed drinking hot chocolate and decorating gingerbread reindeer.

Guiding in Whitchurch

6th Whitchurch Brownies and 1st Whitchurch Guides took part in the great Whitchurch Litter Pick. The team collected more than 8 bin bags of litter- lots of plastic bottles , tops from coffee cups, cable ties and packaging. Most unusual items included a plastic watering can, garden kneeler and a 20p coin. It rained all morning , but the rain didn’t dampen their enthusiasm.  The Brownies also supported the 10K Macmillan run by handing out water and running in the childrens race

Oswestry Community Games

Posted by

Girls and Leaders from Oswestry Division were pleased to have an opportunity to share what they do with members of the public at Oswestry Community Games. Local groups and societies are offered the chance to have a stand at the event where people can attend for free and find out what they do and have a go at some of the activities. Hopefully some more people will want to join us!

Promises at WAVES

Posted by

Lauren and Grace from Bridgnorth Guides were able to make WAVES camp even more memorable, as they made their Guide promises whilst they were away.

WAVES camp took place in the summer holidays at Blackwell Adventure and saw over 350 guides from Shropshire come together to form Pacific, Arctic and Indian sub-camps and face a week of fun and adventure.

On Tuesday evening the whole camp got together at the campfire circle for an evening of singing traditional (and some not so traditional) campfire songs, which is where the girls chose to make their promise.

BP Adventure Weekends

Posted by

Have you been working towards your Baden Powell Award? If you’re almost there (i.e. if you will have eight of your ten clauses finished by November 2017), you could apply to come to the BP Adventure weekend in November. We can’t release all of the details just yet (as it’s meant to be a surprise and all of our weekends are different so that our attendees don’t know exactly what to expect – that’s what makes it challenging!) but it will take place in Market Drayton.

We do still have some spaces left, and you can find the booking form here.

This picture is from our March presentation at the end of the adventure weekend, which took place in Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge.

World Wide Whitchurch

Posted by

Whitchurch Guides got involved with their local community, as well as a little further afield, recently when they were involved in helping out with the World Wide Whitchurch event. The girls helped to prepare and serve a buffet for the local community and guest as part of the national event which recognises and celebrates towns called Whitchurch all over the UK.

Shropshire Celebrates

Posted by

On Saturday, 1400 members of Girlguiding Shropshire celebrated 100 years of guiding in Shropshire with a carnival fair themed event at Shrewsbury College. Rainbows and Brownies from across the county spent the day at Shrewsbury College taking part in activities such as bhangra dancing, circus skills workshops and a silent disco, as well as adding to a tile mosaic which will be displayed at the Jackfield Tile Museum to mark our centenary. The girls then made hats and shakers and took part in the carnival parade along with guides and senior section members.
