30 Year Award and Recognition of service

Posted by Amanda Taylor
It’s been 30 years of non-stop activity. Caroline Ford from 2nd Ellesmere Brownies received her 30-year award. Her husband Mike Ford was awarded recognition of service for Dofe. Caroline began guiding in 1989 after being Brownie and Guide herself.
Starting as a unit helper with Prees Brownies 1989, she then went on to be the leader of that unit. In 1999, after 10 years of involvement with the unit, she moved to Studley Warwickshire. Here she assisted with another Brownie unit for four months then starting her own unit 2nd Studley (St.Marys) in 2000.
This unit was very successful and Caroline ran this for a further 16 years together with becoming the District commissioner which led to recruiting and the further development of a 2nd Guide unit and Rainbow unit.
Moving back to Shropshire in 2015 she volunteered with 2nd Ellesmere Brownies to slow down. This rapidly became another unit under Caroline’s leadership with a current membership of 27 girls.
Caroline said ‘Guiding has been tremendous fun with some fantastic leaders who have made all experiences for girls, parents and leaders memorable happy occasions.
30 years have flown by.’

Shropshire Cares – Shropshire Shares

This social action badge is in two sections, Shropshire cares is about being active in the community, maybe carol singing at an old peoples home or planting trees along the canal. Shropshire shares involves collecting and giving, this maybe toiletries for the Red Box Project, food for the foodbank or animal food for the cats and dogs home. Make your challenges as quirky as you want and don’t forget to share them on social media. These will allow units to take social action at all levels. Shropshire cares is about being active in the community and Shropshire shares allows you to collect and donate for a worthwhile cause – all of your girls choosing! Enjoy!!

The badges are in stock and available from the badge secretary.
